THE FAITH AND DIABETES INITIATIVE

by Institute for Spirituality and Health at Texas Medical Center with support from other stakeholders involved in Cities Changing Diabetes - Houston

is an effort to engage leaders within communities of faith around diabetes awareness, prevention, and treatment. Central to The Faith and Diabetes Initiative is the Congregational Health Leadership program, which empowers lay leaders in diverse communities of faith to address pressing health issues, with a special focus on diabetes.

Diabetes affects all Houstonians: our families, our communities, our schools, our workplaces, our places of worship and ultimately our economy
— Mayor Sylvester Turner

The evidence-based curriculum, which was created by a multi-sector, stakeholder-driven work group, driven by Institute for Spirituality and Health at Texas Medical Center and organized as part of Cities Changing Diabetes - Houston, features five themes:

  1. Diabetes self-management and treatment;

  2. Diabetes prevention and awareness;

  3. Religious Belief, Practice, and Health;

  4. Leadership and Communication;

  5. Evaluation techniques and principles.

THE NEXT TRAINING WILL BEGIN IN MARCH, 2019

We are expecting to welcome Cohort III in the first Quarter of 2019. As soon as information is available, it will be posted here.
